Farmyard Party 2006

What an adventure.....In the true traditions of Salutation, having arranged to meet Tracey and Andy en route, we sailed past the tea wagon they'd stopped at, I did wave though!!! Met up further up the road, we'd been thinking of different wagons!

Decided to stop at the bottom and let him clear the hill and laugh at the line of vehicles trying to match his speed.....Ahhh the smell of burning clutches

Fairly uneventful ride from then on, stopped for a breather in Thirsk and then onto Sutton Bank. When we reached the bottom of the climb, came behind one of those huge tractors pulling a cart with massive hay bales, in crawler gear and going up the hill at about half a mile an hour. Decided to stop at the bottom and let him clear the hill and laugh at the line of vehicles trying to match his speed.....Ahhh the smell of burning clutches. Talk about a small world, while there, who rolls up but the previous owner of my Trike, absolutely made up to see that the Trike is being used. Not so lucky with the Virago I swapped though, he'd managed to put it under a 4 x 4 and it's now in bits.

Got to the site around half two. If I'm honest, whilst it's an excellent spot, it's not as good as the valley, it hasn't quite got the same atmosphere. After we'd pitched tents and had a brew we wandered around the show tents, bumping into Lindy and Nellie.....Had a natter and then finished the wandering.

Next couple of days were the usual...Get pissed, watch bands and eat Cornish pasties, chips, toasties and drink loads of tea.

Friday night only really watched one band...T-Bone who, although not bad, weren't the same as I remember them, from a couple of years back.

Saturday was a different kettle of fish....A Deep Purple tribute band who's lead singer was like a howling banshee and thought the only way, was to scream every other word as loud as possible...bleeding painful!!! At the end of their set he announced that this was the last time the lead guitarist was playing with them...I don't bloody blame him!

Saturday night's headline band was Shine On, the Floyd tribute band that played year before last...Brilliant!

A Deep Purple tribute band who's lead singer was like a howling banshee and thought the only way, was to scream every other word as loud as possible...bleeding painful!!!

The whole weekend was scorchio!!!! Threatened a thunder storm on the Saturday night, but it held off. Only real moan was, although the toilets were clean all weekend, there just weren't enough of them, especially felt around breakfast time, when the queues were long.

Sunday the worst bit as always....Packing up with a hangover.

Said the goodbye's and left the site at half eleven. Tracey and Andy left first then Rick, Joan and myself leaving Thora and Paul behind. They zoomed past on the way to Sutton Bank.

Now the exciting bit.....Descended the long, steep hill from Blubberhouses to the roundabout at the bottom, turned right and then half a mile on tried to pull into petrol station for Rick to fill up....Tried but failed miserably....No brakes at all.....Fortunately the road had a slight rise to it and the Trike slowly stopped, I didn't even have to use the hand brake until the last few yards. Managed to borrow an adjustable off another biker and between Rick an myself, move the right footrest completely away from the brake lever. Then went for a cuppa. Only then did it dawn on me how lucky we'd been, half a mile back had it happened we'd have descended the hill at about 140mph!

Thankfully the rest of the trip was uneventful...Got home knackered and looking like a lobster, but chuffed at a great weekend.

In attendance...Joan, myself, Tracey, Andy, Thora, Paul and Rick.

Top weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
